Climate:

There is three climate zones in the Canadian shield the latrian zone, the boreal zone and the arctic zone. The temperature in the winter varies from -10 to -20 degrees Celsius. In the summer the temperature varies from 18 to 25 degrees Celsius. In the boreal zone there are trees as far as the eye can see. In the arctic zone its just like the Arctic region accept its a little warmer. In the latrian zone many berry's are grown.

Vegetation & Wildlife:

There is a wide variety of vegetation in the Canadian shield that goes from small wild flowers to you can see different trees like birch, aspen and plants like wild roses and much more is also a wide variety of animals you can see reindeer's, Robins, bears, fish, owls, wolves, moose and many more. There is also wild rice plantations here but rice is not.

Terrain: This region has the youngest mountains that haven't eroded yet. This region also has the oldest mountains that have been eroded to lower, rounded formations. You will find the James bay in this region. You will also find Hudson bay. This is the biggest region in Canada( covers most of the area in Canada).


Rocks & Minerals:

The Canadian Shield rocks surround most of the region and mining for mineral is a big recourse for money(economy). The minerals that are mined from the ground like jewels such as silica. There is over ten mines in the Canadian Shields and is said that Canada will provide half of the worlds mining in around twenty years. Canada's first diamond mine opened about 13 years ago in the Canadian shield. 80 communities depend on mining. In nickel is a show others how important this city there is a big nickel right outside of the city.

People:

Some of the first people to ever live in the Canadian shield region were the Inuit people.There are many forts and towns in the Canadian Shield region because of many people landing on the Hudson's Bay during the fur trade. They needed forts for trading furs.One of these forts is Fort Chipewyan in the north eastern corner of alberta.They also have many celebrations to celebrate their culture.One of these celebrations is the fete de nationale which is held in Quebec every year on June 24Th all over Quebec. This is a celebration of the summer solstice and was originally held on the 21st of june.

Economy

Trapping is a major part of the economy in the Canadian Shield region, along with hydroelectricity, forestry and tourism.There are lots of elk, moose and other animals for the trapping industry.The many lakes and rivers provide hydroelectricity. most of the Canadian shield region is forest which provides the lumber industry with natural resources.People enjoy tourism in this area because it is a beautiful region for hiking, camping and water sports.The mining industry is also very important in this economy.One major mining town is Sudbury, Ontario.This town is in a huge crater caused by a mineral rich meteorite.In Sudbury the main thing that they mine is nickel.


Other:

The Canadian Shield makes up nearly half of Canada's total area and has a rich amount of history that involved fur trading and creating trading post. There is a famous connection to the ocean called Hudson Bay that was filled with history that formed the land (such as the Hudson's Bay Company). From boat to Horse, there journey took years to finish
